Can you use internal cladding in bathrooms?
Internal uPVC cladding is frequently used in bathrooms in many workplaces. With exceptional properties such as water repellent, mould resistance and more, cladding can help to achieve a clean and sanitary washroom. They are particularly effective when applied in:
- Changing rooms in gyms, sports halls and other leisure environments. This is because internal uPVC cladding performs exceptionally well in high humidity areas, tolerating any steam from showers.
- Healthcare washrooms as hygienic uPVC cladding has an easy-to-wipe surface and the ability to tolerate regular cleaning and harsh disinfecting chemicals. This helps contribute to a sanitary space.
- Office, retail and hospitality environments can form sanitary spaces with uPVC internal cladding. Once installed, these systems achieve a clean, welcoming look and help to protect staff and visitors from bacteria and mould.
-
Can you clad over existing internal cladding?
Whilst there are a few reasons why someone may want to re-clad, we generally don’t recommend going over existing cladding with a new system. Instead, the previous internal wall cladding needs to be deconstructed before a new system can be built.
Maintenance
If the reason behind your replacement cladding is for maintenance, we strongly recommend removing your existing system first. This is because damaged cladding will continue to rot (in cases of timber cladding) or impact overall performance behind the newly installed system. We also advise updating your workplace with uPVC cladding as, unlike timber systems, it won’t rot or sag when exposed to high humidity environments.Appearance
To achieve your best commercial interior design, we advise starting your cladding structure from scratch. This will give you more freedom to construct your systems to suit a bespoke design, as well as remove thickness that can take away room depth.Performance
Cladding over existing work can impact the performance of your system. For example, ventilation within a room will be impacted due to over-cladding. Whilst going over an existing structure might appear to be a cheap method, in the long run it could result in more expenses. To find the ideal cladding materials for your project, browse our available products today. -
Is cladding waterproof?
Our internal uPVC Cladding has water-resistant properties that means they perform exceptionally well in high humidity environments such as kitchens, gyms, changing rooms with showers and more, as well as rainfall when used externally. uPVC cladding achieves a ‘waterproof’ quality due to furring strips that separate the material from the existing wall. This creates an insulating barrier that traps high levels of moisture, improves hygiene ratings and reduces any damage from dampness.

What is the difference between siding and cladding?
To the untrained eye, siding and cladding can appear incredibly similar. There are, however, a few distinguishing differences between the two systems.
Construction
Perhaps the most notable difference between sliding and cladding is the way they are constructed. Whilst siding is installed directly to a wall, both external and internal wall cladding is installed onto furring strips that lie in between the cladding material and the existing wall. It’s these furring strips that help cladding achieve high performing moisture resistance.Design Options
There are more design options available to those who apply uPVC wall cladding over siding. Along with a wide selection of colours, cladding can also be applied to a wall at any angle. This gives designers creative freedom to produce some truly unique interior features.Durability
In most cases, cladding boards are a lot thicker than siding boards. This means that the impact resistance, general protection and durability is often greater with cladding than it is with siding. If you’re interested in using cladding for your project, browse our uPVC cladding solutions today to find the perfect product to protect your space. -
