Are sound insulating ceiling solutions for me?
If you want to ensure noise is prevented from travelling room to room, then sound insulating solutions are for you! Ceiling sound insulation is particularly important in multi-story buildings where there is potential for sound to disrupt rooms above, or vice versa. Our range of solutions ensure noise retained in the room, preventing disruption and improving confidentiality.
Sound Insulating Ceiling Tiles
Perfect for office, education and healthcare applications which are often situated in multi-story buildings, Sound Insulating Ceiling Tiles are an effective, yet minimal, way of reducing excessive sound travel through ceiling expanses. Ceiling Tiles achieve a clean look and are perfect for applications which already utilise a suspended ceiling system.
Sound Insulating Downlight Covers
Downlight Covers are traditionally used to cover downlights in ceilings to fortify their position in the building envelope. For example, in the case of a fire, heat from the room below can escape through the fitting and decrease the efficiency of loft or ceiling insulation by up to 30%. At Workplace Interior Shop, we supply Downlight Covers made from sound insulating material, meaning they perform both acoustically and safety wise. If your workplace features downlights, this is a fantastic multi purpose solution.
Sound Insulating Polypads
Sound Insulating Polypads offer “fibre free” thermal insulation instead of the standard loft roll product. Due to the nature of the material, they also possess effective sound insulating properties, helping to reduce sound travel through the ceiling void. The insulation quilt is cut up and sealed within individual black bags to help seal the fibres without compromising on the thermal benefit of the quilt itself. These are ideal for applications such as food preparation areas, manufacturing facilities and clean rooms which require minimal fibre shedding during application and maintenance.
Acoustic Metal Furring System (MF Ceiling)
Metal Furring System (MF Ceiling) is a suspended metal frame which allows for the direct fix of plasterboard sheets to create a smooth and seamless finish. Paired with the appropriate acoustic fixings and plasterboard, this system offers high performance acoustic insulation wherever installed.
Key Benefits of Acoustic Insulation:
- Reduced noise travel between rooms
- Increased concentration due to reduction of background noise
- Improved sound quality within rooms
- Improved confidentiality
How do we measure Sound Insulation?
Sound Transmission Class (STC)
Most commonly associated with Sound Insulating products, STC is used to measure the effectiveness of materials in reducing sound transmission between rooms. This rating considers the three most common sound frequencies:
- Decibels – Decibels, dB, are a simple measurement of how loud something is
- Frequency – Frequency, by definition, is the measurement of the time or musical note of the sound
- Transmission Loss – Transmission loss in the measurement of the volume (dB) difference on either side of the wall
An STC rating of 20 is considered very poor while a rating of 60 is considered excellent. For example, an STC rating of 20 means you would be able to hear someone speaking at a low volume through that wall. If the same wall had an STC rating of 60 then you would not be hearing that conversation.
