What is the difference between cladding and lining?

Cladding and lining serve distinct purposes in construction, primarily focusing on enhancing the functionality and aesthetics of buildings.

Cladding is a construction technique used to apply one material over another, primarily to provide a skin or layer intended to control the infiltration of weather elements, or for aesthetic purposes. It’s typically used on the exterior surfaces of buildings to offer protection and give a polished, finished look.

Lining, on the other hand, is predominantly an interior application. It involves the installation of an additional layer or material, such as wall lining systems, to existing walls or structures. The purpose of linin is multifaceted, including improving the appearance, acoustics, thermal insulation and fire protection of a room or building.

In summary, while cladding is external and protective, lining is internal and enhances both functionality and appearance of interior spaces.
