Can you dot and dab acoustic plasterboard?

‘Dot and dab’ (a form of dry-lining) is an alternative way to apply plasterboard to wet plastering. During construction, the plasterboard is directly bonded to existing interior features such as stone walls. As the name suggests, the plasterboard adhesive is dotted and dabbed evenly across the surface of the wall.

The method of constructing your plasterboard can actually have an impact on the performance of your acoustic boards. Due to the ‘dots’ of plasterboard adhesive, empty cavities are formed between the existing wall and the boards. Unfortunately, sound can become trapped in this wall void, amplifying through a process similar to the design of the guitar.

Due to this, we recommend that you do not use a dot and dab method to construct your acoustic plasterboard.
