Altro safety flooring installation guide

This guide outlines key installation points in relation to Altro Safety Flooring.

Key Considerations

  • Ensure that the correct product is selected for the area type
  • Ensure that the correct adhesive is selected for the area type
  • Always hot weld the flooring joints ensuring that the correct tools are used for grooving, hot welding and trimming
  • Always leave the floor suitably protected from other trades using a suitable non-staining floor protecting covering

Storage

The material should be stored for approximately 24 hours at a room temperature (not below 14°C). When laying, the area should be at a steady temperature of between 14°C and 27°C for at least 48 hours prior to, during and for at least 24 hours after completion.

Subfloor

The subfloor must conform with the requirements of BS 8203:2001+A1:2009.

Adhesive

We supply three Altro Adhesives which are suitable for the installation of Safety Flooring:

  • AltroFix 15 (suitable for areas not subjected to spillages)
  • AltroFix 19 (suitable for areas subjected to spillages)
  • AltroFix 365 (suitable for areas subjected to spillages)

Excess adhesive should be removed with a cloth with a neutral detergent in the case of acrylic adhesive or with alcohol for two component adhesives. Removal of excess adhesive should be done as work progresses and whilst the adhesive is still wet.

Laying

For a detailed laying guide, please refer to the technical installation datasheet. This covers:

  • Laying
  • Forming an External & Internal Metre
  • Welding an External & Internal Metre
  • Grooving
  • Forming a Hot Weld Joint
  • Welding
  • Finishing

Adhesive Free Flooring

Some flooring systems in the Safety Floor range are Adhesive free. These Include Altro Wood Adhesive Free and Altro XpressLay. Typical applications for adhesive free flooring include:

  • Temporary or permanent walkways or areas where the substrate may need to be used again later.
  • Over old, soundly fixed asbestos tiles or vinyl sheets.
  • Over existing resin or paint systems that are sound.
  • On new screeds or slabs where the moisture level is less than 97% RH.
  • Over internally heated subfloors providing they are dry, ie 75% RH or less.
