What are ceiling tile edge types?

Square Edge Ceiling Tiles

Square Edge Ceiling Tiles come in the widest range of finishes and are usually the most cost-effective. These tiles are suitable to be used in both 24mm and 15mm grid systems. The tiles sit flush with the gridwork creating a smooth finish.

Microlook Ceiling Tiles

When choosing ceiling tiles, for either a new ceiling or replacement tile, the choice in edge options can become confusing. Reveal Edge ceiling tiles, or Microlook as they are also known, are associated with a rebated or beveled edge to the tile which allows it to sink just below the grid level once installed. This is purely a design feature and often adds to the cost of a suspended ceiling tile.

The term ‘Microlook’ was coined by the manufacturer Armstrong (now Zentia-Armstrong), but is now widely used throughout the ceilings industry. This type of edge detail may also be referred to as VT15 or E15 by other manufacturers.

Tegular Edge Ceiling Tiles

A Tegular Edge, whether square or angular, allows the tile to protrude below the grid ceiling system and provide more depth and texture to the ceiling plane. This is similar to the microlook edge detail, but more exaggerated. Again, this is an aesthetic feature.

Bevelled Edge Ceiling Tiles

A bevelled edge is an edge of a structure that is not perpendicular to the face of the piece. This type of edge is mostly found on metal ceiling tiles which are fitted into a clip in or lay in a concealed grid system. This creates a seamless finish with only a subtle line separating tiles.
